SHE OPENED HER EYES

And wha will faith do in the decisive moment, the supreme and terrible moment of death?  When the mother of Melanchthon was lying on her deathbed, she suddenly opened her eyes and asked her son, who was standing beside her, whether she should keep to the ancient Catholic faith or embrace the new one, that of Martin Luther, as he had done.  With deep emotion Melanchthon, though himself an apostate, replied as follows:  Dear mother keep to your ancient, Catholic faith.  The new faith is indeed easier to live by, but the old faith is easier and happier to die by."  Listen attentively to this, my daughter, and never forget that the Catholic faith renders death easier and happier.  Cling therefore closely to this holy faith, never relinquish it, bu prize it highly, prize it above everything else, as your happiness and consolation both in life and in death.

I WILL USE TIME

Men's Jesuit Retreat, California woods, 1953.

O My Lord Jesus, I will use time. It will be too late to pray when life is over. There is no prayer in the grave 🙏 there is no meriting in Purgatory. Low as I am in Thy all Holy sight, I am strong in Thee, strong through Thy Immaculate Mother, through Thy Saints; and thus I can do much for the Church, for the world, for all I love. O let not the blood of souls be on my head. O let me not walk my own way without thinking of Thee. Let me bring everything before Thee, asking Thy leave for everything I purpose, Thy blessing on everything I do . . . As the dial speaks of the sun, so will I be ruled by thee alone, if Thou will take me and rule me. Be it so, my Lord Jesus, I give myself wholly to Thee. Amen.

AN ACT OF FAITH

I firmly believe that there is one God; and that in this one God there are three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; that the Son took to Himself the nature of man, from the Virgin Mary's womb, by the power of the Holy Ghost; and that in this our human nature He was crucified and died for us; that afterwards He rose again and ascended into heaven; from thence He shall come to repay the just with everlasting glory, and the wicked with everlasting punishment. Moreover, I believe whatsoever else the Catholic Church proposes to be believed; and this because God, who is the sovereign Truth, who can neither deceive nor be deceived, has revealed all these things to this His Church.

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

The Glorified Body by Bishop Barron

My Mother's Radio

The readings for this second Sunday of Lent awaken a sense of wonder, of a world beyond ours, a mystical consciousness. In the first reading with Abraham and in the Gospel account of the Transfiguration, we encounter mountains, darkness, voices, and dazzling light, all of which signal the breakthrough of a higher world.

He does not the smallest wrong to any, for He is perfect justice.  He is not harsh or vindictive, for He is infinite mercy and love.  Ask for purity of mind and heart and body, that God may dwell in you without a rival.

Let one principle guide your life in all its diverse operations. Let nothing turn you from the path of consistency, from whole-hearted loyalty and affection towards God.  Do not dissipate your energies on any other object:  but let all the various duties of life look to God and be turned to His service.
Seek God alone and always!
